I wonder what Mr Brown does with Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrew 10:25? |

Dear EdB, Wonder no further, my friend! We are blessed to have John Brown's entire commentary on Hebrews. Although you will have to exert the individual intellectual sweat of reading it for yourself. I believe it is available here: https://openlibrary.org/ You can find other commentaries on Hebrews at the Precept Ministries (Austin Chapter) website: http://preceptaustin.org/hebrews.htm A variety of commentaries are there. Even if you are looking for something that might come closer to your own Arminian perspective, check Arno Gaebelein (Methodist) or David Guzik (Calvary Chapel). I am sorry, but I do not know of any commentaries on Hebrews written by a Pentecostal. In Him, Doc |

Thanks for the info. FYI open library does not have a readable book on Hebrews by Brown. And I'm sure OSAS advocates have talked their way around Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrew 10:25, but a literal reading clearly is saying that a saved Christian can fall from salvation and if they do there is no return. |

Hi, EdB... For the Open Library, use the following link to find John Brown's commentary on Hebrews: https://archive.org/stream/expositionofepis01brow I think it is in two volumes. There are also expository sermons by Brown that are still extant -- maybe at the biblehub.com. If you don't find what you are looking for in the commentary, some more reading there might prove informative. I thought of another commentator from an Arminian perspective: Adam Clarke. Although he might be something more on the conservative side, given that he is a 19th century scholar. He will go into more detail, though, than does John Wesley, for instance. In Him, Doc |

I read Brown's view of Hebrews 6:4-6, he deals with it by saying scripture includes a situation that could never happen. Brown does not explain why God or the person that penned Hebrews would waste everyone's time writing about something that in Brown's opinion could never happen. I of course believe God doesn't write about things that could never happen so I see this as a very serious warning to all that handle their salvation in a trivial manner. Thanks for the reference, I think I will just stick to a literal reading of scripture instead of Mr Brown's opinion. |
