1 | Sea Monster vs. Fish (Mt. 12:40,Jh 1:17) | Matt 12:40 | Makarios | 109556
(Translational/Textual Question/Criticism) In Matthew 12:40, the NASB rendering includes "IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER", but in Jonah 1:17 states that it was actually a great fish that swallowed Jonah.. Any thoughts on why the NASB renders Matthew 12:40 as "sea monster" instead of simply 'fish'? |

2 | Sea Monster vs. Fish (Mt. 12:40,Jh 1:17) | Matt 12:40 | Emmaus | 109558
Makarios, Is it possible that Matthew was citing the Septuagint and the NASB is using the Hebrew for Jona? Most of the NT citations of the OT are from the Septaugint and they can be noticed because of the slight variants from the Hebrew. Emmaus |

3 | Sea Monster vs. Fish (Mt. 12:40,Jh 1:17) | Matt 12:40 | Makarios | 109582
Greetings Emmaus, That is a point of interest (NT citations of the OT being different from the OT).. I especially liked this case simply because of the 'sea monster' rendering, almost seemingly like another 'leviathan' or something along those lines.. :) Thank you for your input! Blessings to you, Makarios |
