1 | God and the Suffering Saint. Pt 2 | Matt 11:29 | Makarios | 96068
Greetings RJJ! Paul spoke of "being content whatever the circumstances" in Phil 4:11, and he goes on to say "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me" in verse 13, and states, "And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus." But what we can find, in great awe and amazement, is that Paul was able to 'find' this contentment in his Lord amidst his own 'thorn in the flesh' (2 Cor. 12:7) and suffering beyond imagining: "Are they servants of Christ? - I speak as if insane - I more so; in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death. Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep. I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren; I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches. ... The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, He who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying." (2 Cor. 11:23-28,31) We have so much to learn from Paul, who was also gifted and educated and had every reason to boast as we now do (Acts 22:3, Phil. 3:5), but through his sufferings, learned that the ONLY thing that he could rely on or place his hope and trust in, was his Lord!! And in whatever circumstances that we now presently find ourselves in, we look at the testimony of Paul in amazement, encouragement and in anticipation that God will love us also enough to teach us to rely on Him in the same way through our griefs and sufferings. Shalom, Makarios |

2 | God and the Suffering Saint. Pt 2 | Matt 11:29 | RJJ | 96739
Hello Makarios, greetings in the Lords name. Thank you for your post, and lets not forget that our Lord Himself experienced the greatest suffering. In our world today we may have changed the understanding regarding suffering, about its stresses, its poverty, its humiliation , and to name the diseases but despite how we describe it, suffering is still suffering. All praise to the God we serve, a God that knows by experience what suffering means. How much more is the suffering must be for those who do not know the Love of God. SHALOM. RJJ |
