1 | Should we shake the dust from our feet? | Matt 10:14 | Bill Mc | 16859
Should we use this verse as justification to pull our missionaries out of countries like Afghanastan, Pakistan, or China where Christians are in danger of being killed or persecuted? There are many countries in the world that are hostile to Christians and the gospel message that salvation is found in Christ alone. Why do we maintain a missionary presence there if Jesus has told us that if we are not received, then we should leave and not come back? Also, would Matthew 7:6 apply? Jesus said not to throw your pearls before swine or they would turn and tear us to pieces? Is this what we are seeing with the terrorists' attacks on America?
2 | Should we shake the dust from our feet? | Matt 10:14 | Searcher56 | 16863
Bill Mc, Should we shake the dust from our feet? ... No. I believe this is a house or town (vv 10-14). Jeremiah did not see one convert. There are missionaries who see very little fruit. Japan is one country. But, we (they) stay at the task, until God moves them on. Should we pull our missionaries out of countries like Afghanistan? ... No. We are promised that we may be persecuted (Matt 5:10ff, John 15:20, 2Cor 4:9). We may even die (Phil 1:21). Why? ... Because we are commanded (Matt 28:19-20) Also, would Matthew 7:6 apply? ... No. It could apply to many who live in the USA. Is this what we are seeing with the terrorists' attacks on America? ... I doubt it, unless the missionaries were the "ugly Americans". The visitors could be blamed, not the missionaries. We need to show them that we love them, and God does, too. There were missionaries in Vietnam even during the war. Steve |
