Hi Prayon, Lev.18:22 " Do not lie with a man as one lies with a womwn, that is detestable." I have looked up the word "lie" in a dictionary which offers several explanations, all of which do not have connotation of sex.So, is this verse [Lev.18:22] open to interpretation? Unlike Lev.18:23 which is directly related to sex. "Do not have sexual relationship with an animal......" Your comments, please With love in Christ. FytRobert |

FytRobert: As Radioman has pointed out, and my dictionary confirms, "to lie with," although now considered an archaic idiom, means nothing less than to have sexual intercourse with. You would doubtlessly have no question about what "to sleep with" means in modern idiomatic English, would you? You wouldn't ask whether that was a matter of interpretation, no? You and I know perfectly well that when a couple are said to be sleeping together, chances are they aren't getting a great deal of sleep! :-) Well, in the language of yesteryear, neither were couples who were said to lie with each other. --Hank | ||||||
