Why does the scripture in the old testatment give the mother's name and who she was daughter of? What does it mean or imply? Example - 2 Kings 22:1 it states Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in jersualem; and his mother's name was jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath. Why does it states the mother's name and who she was daughter of?
2 | 2 Kings 22:1 why is mother's name includ | Zech 6:10 | King T | 222592
You’d recall that all scripture was given by inspiration of God (2 Timothy 3:16), that is, the Bible was written by God Himself. Our God is a God of specifics; He is not the author of confusion which is why He gave us a Spirit of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). God had to be specific which Josiah He was referring to, hence He had to detail Josiah’s genealogy even on His mother’s side. God had to specify which Josiah he was talking about. The name appears several times in the Bible – more than 50 times depending on the bile translation used. However of all its numerous usages, it refers predominantly at the King of Judah and only in Zechariah 6:10 is it used to refer to the son of Zephaniah. Had not God specified, this son of Zephaniah would have been easily misunderstood as the son of King Amon. Also the name Amon itself appears several times in the Bible but only one was married to Jedidah daughter of Adaiah. It was all for specifics; God wanted to be specific. However, Jedidah too had to be introduced to refer to Adaiah. Anyway, I can only share more on Adaiah if only you are interested. Let me know if you are fully answered. Stay blessed, King T! |
