1 | The (s)Shepherd's value? | Zech 11:13 | Ray | 133287
The Amplified version sees the thirty pieces of silver as being the sum at which both the Lord and also His shepherd were valued. What do you think? Is this the price that the Lord is valued at? My question is whether I should count the "I was valued" as a pronoun of Deity. When you look at the quotation marks in Zechariah 11:13 of various versions, one can see the reason for the question. Which version do you go with? Zech 11:13, NKJ, "And the Lord said to me, "Throw it to the potter"--that princely price they set on me. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the Lord for the potter." Zech 11:13, NASB, "Then the Lord said to me, "Throw it to the potter, that magnificent price at which I was valued by them." From the heart, Ray |

2 | The (s)Shepherd's value? | Zech 11:13 | following him | 133585
Hello Ray: I would capitalize it. It seems to me that it is God speaking to Zech in the first person and refering to Himself. Blessing to you Aaron |

3 | The (s)Shepherd's value? | Zech 11:13 | Ray | 133604
Hi Aaron, Thank you for answering. For the NASB, of course "I" would be capitalized whether for Deity or for Zechariah. The Amplified says that both the Lord and Zechariah were valued at that price. So if you want to capitalize it we could say that you are going with "And the Lord said to me, "Throw it to the potter"--that princely price they set on Me." So I took the thirty pieces of silver..." Perhaps we need a Greek scholar to tell us how the grammar would affect this idea that the thirty pieces would be the sum put on the Christ in the future. Would you say that God was speaking of Himself alone or of both of them individually? From the heart, Ray |

4 | The (s)Shepherd's value? | Zech 11:13 | following him | 133605
Hello Ray: I would say that God was speaking of Himself. It seems to me that the context of the passage is all about God's relationship with the leaders of Israel and the value they put on it and His ways. It may be that they saw things differently concerning their faithfulness to God yet the context is concerning the truth that those leaders cared very little about God. Zech. was only the middle man relaying God's message to them. How they responded to Zech., God considered it their response to Him. |
