I want to conduct a small bible youth group in my house. However, I would like to have some verses and other information about, "What does God require or asks from us"? I will greatly appreciate your information. Thank you...

if you go to church you could just use your pastor's lessons or even ask him for lessons, or buy or go online to a devotional site and they'll give you lots of great lessons and verses. God Bless. |

True enough, this young Christian could serve his friends a warmed-over sermon from his pastor, and I'm not deriding you for your suggestions -- I believe you want to be helpful. But nothing takes the place of a bill of spiritual fare lovingly and prayerfully prepared fresh from the word of God and served from the heart with fervor and deep conviction. Quick-fix "devotionals" and second-hand sermons are generally no more palatable than fast foods, and no more nourishing. Here we have a young person whose life has very recently been changed by a new birth in Christ. His testimony of how Christ has changed his life speaks louder to his peers than any of the finest pre-packaged "great lessons" could possibly do. Sure, he has much growing to do in the faith in order to attain spiritual maturity, and I fervently pray that he will grow. But I should think that he now, knowing Christ even though yet a babe in Christ, already knows enough with the help of the Holy Spirit who dwells in him, to show his peers the Way to life eternal. SweetT, I assure you again that I do not assail your suggestions. But I speak as one who, in more than 50 years as a Christian, has on occasion had to endure sermons delivered half-heartedly and without conviction that were obviously imitations copied from someone else's heart and mind. And insipid "devotionals" that were hastily snatched from some anthology of "devotions for all occasions." These poor imitations lack punch and power. It is like comparing -- what shall I say? I need a good simile -- biscuits. That's it. It's like comparing home-cooked buttermilk biscuits made from scratch, the kind my mother used to make so well, with these horrid little imitations that come pre-packaged and ready-made in paper cans that go pop when you open them. --Hank

Greetings Hank! Yes, those pre-packaged, ready-made paper cans never seem to do any justice to biscuits! :-) You are such a blessing! I greatly miss you when I am away from the Forum, and I am greatly relieved to know that you continue to post with such wisdom and humor.. :-) Your friend, Nolan |
