Get a good Greek lexicon. Look up every passage that contain the following words: epiphaneia (Strongs 2015) (appearing) parousia (Strongs 3952) (advent) hupostrepho (Strongs 5290) (return) erchomai (Strongs 2064) (coming) (If I've left any out, please let me know.) You might also explictly look up the phrase "Day of the Lord" (there is only one "Lord's day" reference and that is Revelation 1:10). Every passage that you find that pertains to Christ's second coming, write down the details. This is the only way to get a full grasp of what the scripture has to say on this subject. (In fact, this is the best way to find out what the Bible says about any subject.) When you are done with this study, you will have a far greater understanding of eschatology than the most people -- even most pastors! It is sad that in our day most people pick up second hand opinions from popular novels. Lord, help us to seek all truth from the source of all that is true. Give us diligence, discipline, and discernment as we mature in rightly dividing the Word, and applying it to our lives. |
