G_reed51 Good question and Welcome to the forum. God had placed a call on Moses to His service. Moses was attempting to take a short cut by not fulfilling all aspects of the covenant he was to represent on God's behalf to the world. God took this action to reinforce to Moses the seriousness of following God's will/direction/covenant to the letter. Moses wife immediate reaction tells us she knew and understood the immediate danger to her husband. Her statement you are a husband of blood to me shows her revulsion of the whole idea of circumcision that her husband should already had done. Many lessons are to be learned here. When we are called to serve God we should not neglect proper ways or attempt shortcuts. To be effective in God’s service we have to be squeaky clean above reproach. We have to remember we are representing God to the world not just ourselves. Moses forgot one lesson learned here and it later cost him his right to enter the promise land. Moses didn’t follow God direction exactly and let his emotion cause him to strike the stone when he was expressly told to speak to it. How quickly we forget God lessons EdB |
