1 | Generational Curses | Ex 4:11 | 8788 | 107567
I was reading some post on generational curses and don't know much about it. To give you some background, my father, brother, sister and myself sturder and sometimes talk fast. My brother who is now a Pastor which is my Pastor can speak with clarity and he said in the past he would sturder really bad, but with the help of the Lord and reading has helped him alot. We are not dumb people we all are successful people who love God, but my questions is, is what we have a generational curse? And what scriptures can I stand on related to this? I was just reading Exodus 4:10-12 regarding Moses and because of my speech I will not do special things in the church in front of people. When I speak I get nervous and I start to talk so fast and I have asked God to help me in that area to take my time when I speak. So if anyone can help me with some scriptures to stand on or is Exodus 4 alright. Thanks so much for all your help, I am really blessed to have found out about this forum. God Bless! |

2 | Generational Curses | Ex 4:11 | Makarios | 107568
Greetings 8788! Blessings to you, my friend! In no way do I believe that some of our shortcomings, such as stuttering when we speak, being too short when we should have been tall, or being a bit more good looking than we are now, could be "classified" as something that would be a "generational curse." First of all, I do not believe that God punishes children for their parents' sins (Num. 14:18), even though the consequences of sin may linger on for generations. I believe that God punishes people for their own sins. If we read Deut. 24:16, we read, "Fathers shall not be put to death because of their children, nor shall children be put to death because of their fathers. Each one shall be put to death for his own sin." Also, in Ezekiel 18:4-20 we read that children will not die for the sins of their fathers. So, how are we then to interpret Numbers 14:18? I think that this verse is referring to the fact that parents may pass onto their children sinful patterns of behavior, or consequences left after sin. In no way does this include such genetic things as hair color, height, or possibly stuttering in speech. I interpret Num. 14:18 in this way: for example, a parental environment of alcoholism may produce a child who ends up drinking, or a parental environment of yelling may produce a child who verbally abuses others. But these are all types of behavior that are described as evil (1 Kings 22:52; 2 Chronicles 22:3; Jeremiah 9:14). In no way is Numbers 14:18 describing something that could be thought of as part of the process of learning how to speak more clearly. My friend, every single one of us has to learn how to speak at some point, and every person has stumbled, at one time or another, in their speech! :) Therefore, you are not alone in your troubles, and you should not feel bad in anyway, or that your family has in some way been "cursed." I pray that you would not feel this way any longer, but would have assurance in your heart that the Lord loves you and yours, and thinks of you as precious in His sight! I do not believe that the Lord would "curse" your speech out of a sin that your ancestors may have committed. My friend, possibly the best way to correct this (public speaking) is to perhaps work with someone, such as a speech therapist. When I was very young, I did not pronounce my 's's correctly, and I had to develop my speech with a speech therapist. Perhaps this would correct your difficulty and give you the confidence to speak whenever the Lord puts it upon you to speak, even putting Moses to shame! :-) Remember to relax, letting your words flow after you have put some thought into it, and letting it come out smoothly. Remember that you are not alone! Public speaking has been described as one of the greatest of all fears! But all fears can be overcome if we have the Lord on our side, and I am convinced that the Lord will, in fact, be on your side, the same way that He was at Moses' side! Blessings to you, Makarios |
