1 | Why did Joshua not leave the tabernacle? | Ex 33:11 | craftienanna | 131306
In this verse it says....And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle..... Why did Joshua not leave the tabernacle when Moses left? |

2 | Why did Joshua not leave the tabernacle? | Ex 33:11 | DocTrinsograce | 131307
Good question! I can find several possible answers: 1. The language is imprecise and there should be a stop after "young man." Indicating that Joshua left with Moses, but the cloud stayed in the tabernacle. (That doesn't quite sound right to me, but I thought I should include it.) 2. He stayed behind to insure that the tabernacle remained pure. (But that is kind of an odd job to give to the general of the army.) 3. One source said Joshua was being prepared to succeed Moses. First, he learned to draw near to God, while separated from the unholy camp. Later, he would learn to minister with holiness and grace, in the midst of an unrighteous people. (But this just doesn't seem to fit the narative.) So, based on my thorough analysis, I'd have to retreat to frequently said retreat: I dunno. :-) |

3 | Why did Joshua not leave the tabernacle? | Ex 33:11 | Ray | 131360
Hi Doc Trinsograce, It is difficult to know in Exodus 33:11 what "the tent" is. Is "the tent" the "Tabernacle of meeting" or is it Joshua's personal tent? I would think that it is speaking of the Tabernacle and thus the verse is saying that Joshua was always seeking the Lord, verse 7. Everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting which was outside the camp. The Lord used to speak to Moses face to face and Joshua was always seeking the Lord. That makes sense to me. God told Moses and He probably told Joshua, that (verse 14) "My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest." I think that Hebrews 4:7 speaks to us today. "Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts". From the heart, Ray |

4 | Why did Joshua not leave the tabernacle? | Ex 33:11 | DocTrinsograce | 131377
Hi, Ray... I think you are right. The cloud would not have come down on Joshua's tent, since this was a sign to all the people. Although Joshua is called a "young man" he was around 57 (middle age, for him!), but servants were often called that, no matter what their age was. Interesting to speculate about. But I do tend to be partial to your suggestion.
