How could Moses speak to God face to face and still live? Exodus33:20-23 I believe it expains that (knowone can see Gods face) Is this a contradiction? Or was it a mediphor for God's thoughts to Moses's mind? | ||||||

Dear Barry: I think you can find the answer in the verses you cited. Look at verse 11. The Lord used to speak to Moses face to face. "Just as" is a term of comparison. The comparison is that the Lord spoke to Moses directly just as you might speak to your friend directly. We know that Moses would tell the people what God said so Moses had a special relationship with the Lord. One that the people did not have. You have a special relationship with your friend and speak to him directly. You might tell others what your friend says but you are the one who has the special relationship. Face to face means they spoke directly to one another as you and your friend speak directly to one another. Verse 9 explains how the Lord appeared to Moses: in the pillar of cloud. Ex 33:9 Whenever Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent; and the LORD would speak with Moses. Very interesting. Blessings, Val |
