1 | Why Aaron? | Ex 28:1 | prayon | 26233
In Exodus 32:2-5 it tells of how the people gathered around Aaron and asked him to make gods for them. Aaron agreed and fashioned for them the golden calf and declared "these are your gods, O Isreal". Then in verse 22-24 it states that he lied about how it happened. Why then was this man chosen to be the priest in the tabernacle?
2 | Why Aaron? | Ex 28:1 | Makarios | 26249
Greetings Prayon! I agree, the making of the golden calf, among other things, does not reflect positively on the character of Aaron to be the spiritual leader of God's chosen people.. The only conclusion that I can come to (why Aaron was chosen to be the priest) is because of his lineage, being a Levite (Exo_6:16-20; Jos_21:4; Jos_21:10; 1Ch_6:2; 1Ch_6:3; 1Ch_23:13). And the Levites were to be consecrated to the Lord as priests. But I agree, some of the characteristics found in Aaron (jealousy in Num. 12:1, Psalm 106:16) are hardly of the resemblance of a priest, but the Lord did speak through him (Exo_12:1; Lev_10:8; Lev_11:1; Lev_13:1; Lev_15:1; Num_2:1; Num_4:1; Num_4:17; Num_18:1; Num_19:1; Num_20:12) as well as establishing the priesthood in his family (Exo_28:40-43; Exo_29:9; Num_3:3; Num_18:1; 1Ch_23:13; 2Ch_26:18). So my answer is that the Lord did this to establish the Levite priesthood. Blessings to you, Nolan |
