1 | Don't eat meat torn by animals | Ex 22:31 | case_00 | 105719
How come God didn't want the Israelites to eat unclean food? I've heard that unclean food isn't as healthy. But what about meat torn by animals? The only reason I can think of is that there might be diseases or bacteria in the meat if an animal tore it apart.
2 | Don't eat meat torn by animals | Ex 22:31 | Makarios | 105746
Greetings Case_00, Leviticus 11 and Deut. 14:3-20 goes into much detail about foods that were permitted and forbidden to eat. Basically, Israel was to obey God's absolute standard, regardless of the reason or lack of understanding of it, and such a unique diet of clean/unclean foods was specified so that Israel would find it difficult to eat with the idolatrous people around and among them. Their dietary laws served as a barrier to easy socialization with idolatrous peoples. (1) As for not eating meat torn by animals, that special regulation caused Israel to be set apart in conduct, not just in name. "The special calling as Yahweh's firstborn son (4:22) and as His treasured possession, a kingdom of priests and a holy nation (19:5,6) mandated ethical uprightness." (1) Blessings to you, Makarios (1) The MacArthur Study Bible, 1997, Word Publishing, John MacArthur, pg. 128, 168 |

Wow, thanks for that insight on the socialization with idolatrous people. That makes a lot of sense since the Israelites were so drawn to become like them (as we especially see later in the years of Israel).
