1 | The Ten Commmandments and Gentiles | Ex 20:2 | Arnie | 42923
When God gave Israel the Ten Commandements at Mount Sinai, did He hold any other nation or country accountable to that which he gave Israel? Especially their relationship to God. (no other gods, no images, taking His name in vain, the Sabbath day?) Arnie
2 | The Ten Commmandments and Gentiles | Ex 20:2 | Makarios | 42924
Greetings Arnie! After reading and studying Exodus 20 and the surrounding chapters, I have never found any evidence whatsoever that the Ten Commandments were directed towards or applicable to any other nation except for Israel. Israel alone was God's chosen people, and Israel alone would be the recipient and keeper of the Ten Commandments. However, I am not saying that the other nations of the world were in any way exempt from their sins by not having the Ten Commandments. Israel was God's chosen nation, and Israel was to be the people of God in the midst of the world at large. However, God has now opened the doors for all to come to Him, when His Son came to take upon Himself the sins of the whole world (Romans 5:6, 1 John 2:2). Blessings to you, Makarios |

The other nations (and individuals) were judged by how they treated Israel when Israel was being obedient to the will of God. If they received favorable judgement, there was often a condition which they had to follow in order to receive a blessing from God. Compare Rahab in Joshua (6:17), Naaman in II Kings (5:1 ff), the Amalekites in I Samuel (15:2), the Kenites in I Samuel (15:6), and Solomon's dedication of the temple in I Kings (8:41-43). However, due to the prophecy of Isaiah fulfilled by Jesus (Mt 12:17-21), the judgement of gentiles is now based on faith in Jesus and works towards all people.

No, the children of Israel were cohsen by God to show Him to the Gentiles the 10 commandments were part of the covenant that God mad with the children of Israel. Rom 2:11 For God shows no partiality [undue favor or unfairness; with Him one man is not different from another]. [Deut. 10:17; II Chron. 19:7.] Rom 2:12 All who have sinned without the Law will also perish without [regard to] the Law, and all who have sinned under the Law will be judged and condemned by the Law. Rom 2:13 For it is not merely hearing the Law [read] that makes one righteous before God, but it is the doers of the Law who will be held guiltless and acquitted and justified. Rom 2:14 When Gentiles who have not the [divine] Law do instinctively what the Law requires, they are a law to themselves, since they do not have the Law. Rom 2:15 They show that the essential requirements of the Law are written in their hearts and are operating there, with which their consciences (sense of right and wrong) also bear witness; and their [moral] decisions (their arguments of reason, their condemning or approving thoughts) will accuse or perhaps defend and excuse [them] |

Meusing, I agree they were chosen to show the gentiles Gods way of life, but history is a witness against Israel that they did not show the world Gods way of life. IF they followed that which they were given (the law) then they could have been that shining light for all the world see. Israel became an example for just the opposite, they wrote lesson for us today. 1 Cor 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. KJV Romans 2 tells us all men (Jews-Spiritual Jews-Gentiles)vare going to be judged according to THEIR WORKS. We are not SAVED by our works so what judgement is this talking about? |

1 Cor 10:6 Now these things are examples (warnings and admonitions) for us not to desire or crave or covet or lust after evil and carnal things as they did. [Num. 11:4, 34.] As in Numbers he shows us what we are in the sight of God, and warns us against using that (position) as grounds to sin. And he gives us confidence ... 1 Cor 10:13 For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently. Romans 1, 2, and 3 show that no one can keep from sinning, we are all guity and it is through the sacrifce and resurection of Jesus that we are saved. |

Deut 4:19 And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven. KJV |
