ooh....they accused Him of not keeping the sabbath (the healing broke it) and also of blaspheming God by calling Himself the son of God. Neither accusation was true because their basis of interpretation of the law i believe came from the talmud which took the very technical side of the law and focused on that (when in fact the central focus of the law was love of God and neighbor). We also know that he was not blaspheming or even lying for that matter, because what He had said was true. |

Hello, Stoneslinger: Welcome to the forum! Yes, they did not understand the heart of the matter: He is our Sabbath, and in Him we find our rest. There is no other way to find rest, but in Him. He is Truth, His very Word, is Truth. The law was given to show us we are sinners. And that we cannot keep the law, for no-one ever did but Him. He is the way. He died so that the sentence of death was fulfilled. And we can find life everlasting in faith that His death was sufficient to give us life, when we as sinners, deserved only death. God bless John |
