1 | temple sacrifice and the crucifixion | Ex 12:6 | SteveEbony333 | 117087
I have heard there was a sacrifice taking place in the Temple at the same time Jesus was being crucified on that Fri. afternoon. I have not been able to find a reference to substantiate this. Does anyone know if there was a sacrifice that day. Was it the daily sacrifice or was it some special one?
2 | temple sacrifice and the crucifixion | Ex 12:6 | Emmaus | 117088
It is inferred from the Passover regulations. The hour Jesus died as darkness was approaching was the hour that the Passover lamb was slaughtered. It was the day of Preparation John 19:42.See also Exodus 12:6 the Passover lamb was to be slaughtered in "the evening twilight." John 19:30 The foot note in the Ignatius Study Bibles says that in the sixth hour, about noon, the lambs were being slain in the Temple courts for the Passover that evening. Many people came to Jerusalem for the Passover so that they could have their lambs slain in the Temple predcincts and celebrated the Passover in the holy city. The volume lambs that needed to be slain obviouslty called for the process to begin well before dusk so that the work was done before then. |

3 | Relation of passover and the Last Supper | Ex 12:6 | SteveEbony333 | 117743
Thanks, that was very helpful. I think what was confusing me is the passage in Matthew 26 that immediately preceeds the Last Supper "17On the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?" 18He replied, "Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, 'The Teacher says: My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.' " 19So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover." Sounds tike it took place on Friday, but in Exodus the meal follows the killing of the lamb. |

4 | Relation of passover and the Last Supper | Ex 12:6 | Emmaus | 117755
Steve Ebony, There are a lot of previous post on this question in the forum archives from past years about this time. One thing to keep in mind is that the various Jewsih sects had slightly different calenders. For example: the Sadducces and Parisees followed a lunar calendar, but the Essenes followed a solar calendar. And the feast of the unleavened bread and the Passover itself were apparently at one time separate feast that became overlapped by the time of Christ and we a weeklong festival. Here is a link to an article that you may find helpful http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/14341a.htm You can also search in the Quick Search box on the right side of the screen for Last Supper to see other posts related to your question.
