Dreams and Visions "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions"-Joel 2:28 The reality of this promise should be an active part of our faith. However, too often the "conservativity"(Bushism) of many "Christians" discards any spiritual gift, leaving us with a watered down weak God who doesn't speak today, doesn't perform miracles and surely doesn't give visions. The true and living faith embraces the visions, prophecies, dreams and intuitions of the mystic path. The Lord spoke to Joseph primarily in his dreams. He taught Peter through visions and He has revealed many important truths in these days through both dreams and visions. Joseph Smith had visions, Ellen White had Dreams, Mary baker Eddy had intuitions, Helen Shuchman had intuitions, Edgar Cayce received dreams-visions-intuitions. Oral Roberts receives dreams and voices. Indeed most ministers receive "promptings" of some sort or another. To deny any of these methods of communication is to deny God His/Her rightful voice. |

Chochma: The problem, as I see it with dreams and visions as you have referrred to them is this- they are completely extrabiblical and subjective in nature. As one who believes in the inerrancy and authority of scripture, dreams and visions are nothing but convenient "end runs" around this. Instead of the Bible being the authority ( as Christ gives it in His proclamation against satan in Matt. 4:4-10), personal visions, etc. become the basis of "truth". The highly subjective nature of dreams and vision should caution one against their being given too much credence! We have the completed canon of Scripture as our final authority and plumb-line of truth! As Jesus said, He is the way, the TRUTH, and the life (John 14:6). Just out of curiosity, you state "To deny any of these methods of communication is to deny God His/Her rightful voice." Upon what basis would you give God a feminine gender?
