Mommapbs: No, I have not experienced either. But I do not base doctrine on dreams and visions; I base it on the Word of God, the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. Col. 2:18 (TEV) Do not allow yourselves to be condemned by anyone who claims to be superior because of special visions... We must test EVERYTHING to see if it lines up with the Word of God. Take the content of any vision and compare it to the Bible. If the vision contradicts the Word of God, then the vision will have to go. There is no new revelation. I am not saying it is "wrong" to believe any and all visions. What I am saying is that one ought to be exceedingly careful when it comes to visions. In the last days many false prophets will appear and will deceive many. The same thing applies to dreams. While God may speak through a dream or a vision, that is not His normal way of communicating with us (see Hebrews 1:1). It has been said that most "dreams are not omens. Dreams are itinerant chemical reactions." Hebrews 1:1-2 (ESV) [1] Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, [2] but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. Col. 2:18 (ESV) Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, Col. 2:18 (TEV) Do not allow yourselves to be condemned by anyone who claims to be superior because of special visions and who insists on false humility . . . For no reason at all, such people are all puffed up by their human way of thinking. --kalos |

Thanks kalos for your reply. I agree, the vision or dream MUST line up with the Word. The problem (as I see it) is that too many believers are ignorant of the Word and therefore can not either make or reject the connection. At times, I think that there is an issue of laziness in the body. EACH of us should diligent and devoted to daily studying the Word -there is never a time to fast from this food! Also, we should not subsitute the study or preparation of others such as our Pastors and Bible teachers. They are human and subject to error as much as anyone else. I believe we must be Berean-like (Acts 17:11)in our approach to preaching, teaching, visions and dreams . . . Blessings, mommapbs |
