1 | so what's the big deal about pride? | Dan 4:37 | stjohn | 199484
What is pride? A liar? A thief? What? What is it? Why is it so bad? What is it about pride that God hates so much? It hardly seems equal to, murder, or sexual perversion, rape, or sodomy, or even bestiality! Oh my, we don’t even want to mention that. Mass killings by suicide bombers that kill so many innocent mothers and innocent babies! Villagers hacked to peaces by machete wilding hooligans! Oh, how we cringe at the very thought! But pride, It seems so, benign…. After all, it doesn’t go round with a sword, removing the heads of the innocent. Does it? What, is so bad, about pride? Well then, what was it that caused the fall of Lucifer? The most beautiful of all God’s Angels, the one that some say led the songs of praise to The Most High God! And what was it that he said to Eve in the garden that beguiled her and caused her to sin against God? Did he ask her to lie or steal or dance naked in the street, or, what? What was it? What was so bad about just taking a bight of the fruit and why was she so willing to disobey God? And we know what that first sin of disobedience brought into the world, why it brought of course all the sins of all the world for all time, and all the horrible things we have seen before-mentioned. Yes, it is pride that is the father of all sin. Let us pray for the power of God to work in our hearts and tear down that wall of pride that so deceitfully and vigilantly guards our hearts from God’s wonderful, redeeming, and sanctifying grace.

Amen, Brother John. Thank you for sharing. Reading your note triggers my memory to the book "The Experience That Counts" by Jonanthan Edwards that makes me mindful of Satan's trick (2 Cor 11:14)... "Spiritual humiliation is the essence of Christian self-denial...he must deny his natural self-righteousness and self-centredness...is the hardest to do... "...the proud man tends to think very highly of his humility, whereas the truly humble man thinks of himself as very proud! This is because the proud man and the humble man have different views of themselves. We measure a man's humiliation by our view of his proper dignity and greatness. If a king knelt down to remove the shoe of another king, we would consider this an act of self-abasement, and so would the king who did it. By contrast, if a slave knelt down to remove the shoe of his king, nobody would think that a great act of self-abasement, or a sign of great humility. The slave himself would not think so, unless he were ridiculously conceited... "The proud man is like the conceited slave. He thinks it a great sign of humility to confess his unworthiness before God...If he had a proper view of himself, he would rather feel astonished and ashamed that he was not more humbled before God. "The truly humble man never feels that he has sufficiently asbased himself before God. He feels that however low he bends, he could bend lower. He always feels that he is above his proper position before God. He looks at his position, and looks at where he should be, and he appears at a great distance from it. He calls the distance 'pride'. It is his pride that appears to him to be great, not his humility. It does not seem to him to be a great sign of his humility that he should lie in the dust at the feet of God. He thinks that is exactly where he belongs." - Jonathan Edwards Always love sharing with you. Shalom Azure |

Did you hear of the man who bended so low, he had to look up, just so he could look down? Just kidding! ;-) Thanks Sister, I love shearing with you too!

Dear Brother, How can I "shear" with you as I am not a lamb shearer...:-) though I watched how it (a show) did once in New Zealand. I also fed them with bottles of milk...so lovely. Shalom Azure |

I was hoping no one made note my misspelling. I did happen to see that, and thought it might be the wrong spelling, I am a horrible speller and use spell check every time I post, but as shearing is a word, all seemed well, but it did not tell me it was the wrong one! :-) By the way I used to raise sheep, and even learned to spin wool into yarn. But now I just spin yarns with words! I've held many a bottle for baby lambs in the middle of the night. I don't miss those days! Sometimes we would find them in the field, cold and half dead as the ewe mother would lamb and just sometimes leave her baby lamb to the cold night air, and we would have to bring them into the house to revive them in our bed where it is nice and warm, but wife was not so happy about that! They were so very dear though, and it would sometimes crush me to have one die in my arms while I was trying to bring it back from hypothermia, very sad. God bless John |
