1 | Who are Hananiah, Mishael and Meshach? | Dan 1:7 | Searcher56 | 13122
Most people do not know. The names of Hananiah, Mishael and Meshach changed in the rest of the book of Daniel, save 1:19 and Daniel's is not. Why wouldn't Daniel want to write their Jewish names, instead of their Babylonian names? Why didn't Daniel use his new name very much? |

2 | Who are Hananiah, Mishael and Meshach? | Dan 1:7 | EdB | 13152
Steve actually it was Daniel Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah not Meshach. I suspect their heathen names were required and Daniel got into the habit of calling them by them, However he never thought of himself as Belteshzzar but rather as Daniel and therefore when he wrote he called himself by that name. While yours is a good question, I have one I find far more disturbing, why doesn't the church call the three Hebrew children by their Hebrew names. Ask any child in Sunday school and they can tell you story a Shadrack, Meshach and Abed-Nego. But ask them who was Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah and they are lost. |
