Kllock: C.I.Scofield in his reference Bible gives a good, concise summary of Lamentations. It is reproduced in part as follows: "Lamentations, composed of five elegies lamenting the destruction of Jerusalem, is undoubtedly the work of Jeremiah (6th century B.C.). The deeper significance of Lamentations lies in the fact that Jeremiah's intense burden of sympathy for Jerusalem discloses the love and sorrow of the Lord for the very people whom He is chastening, a burden similar to that which the Lord Jesus Christ expressed in His lament over Jerusalem in Matthew 23:37-39. The book may be divided by its chapters, each of which contains a different lamentation." I trust this small piece of background information will augument your understanding and appreciation of this portion of God's word. --Hank | ||||||
