2 | What sacrifices? | Jer 7:22 | Radioman2 | 85152
21 This is what the LORD Almighty, the God of Israel, says: "Away with your burnt offerings and sacrifices! Eat them yourselves! 22 When I led your ancestors out of Egypt, it was not burnt offerings and sacrifices I wanted from them. 23 This is what I told them: 'Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Only do as I say, and all will be well!' 24 "But my people would not listen to me. They kept on doing whatever they wanted, following the stubborn desires of their evil hearts. They went backward instead of forward. 25 From the day your ancestors left Egypt until now, I have continued to send my prophets--day in and day out. 26 But my people have not listened to me or even tried to hear. They have been stubborn and sinful--even worse than their ancestors." Jeremiah 7:21-26 :: New Living Translation (NLT) |

3 | Repeat questions | Jer 7:22 | Mommapbs | 85156
Greetings Radioman - thanks for the Scripture, but I'm interested in what it means for us as believers. Care to take a stab at this? What do you think that God is really talking about here? How might we be like Israel today? How are we not listening or following? What can we compare "sacrifices" to? |

Mark 7:6 "He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me." To worship God verbally or religiously while our heart is selfish and self seeking, disregarding the direction of the Holy Spirit.... Examples... 1. To go to church every time the doors are open, yet we do not love our neighbor and in many cases, not even our own families. 2. We tithe and give regularly out of pride and obligation, and out of our abundance, rather than from a heart of love and desire for the gospel to go forth and children fed. 3. We sing songs of praise and surrender, then make our own decisions without even asking God. 4. Prayer is a formal routine not mixed with faith that God actually hears and answers. God bless |

Greetings graceful - excellent observations! When I first pondered this Scrpture, I thought about our own rescue, not from Egypt but from sin and how God does it all! The idea of earning favor with God originated with man . . . and so many times I see myself falling into that old performance trap. Blessings to you, mommapbs |
