Around my way, they call it "Playing Church". Almost every Sunday, the Mother of the church will say, " It's time out for playing church, children." Matthew chapter 23 is a whole chapter talking about the Pharasees "playing church." To obey is better than sacrifice. When people sacrifice with the motive of self-glorification, they've done it to bring attention to themselves and not to Glorify GOD. I guess it gives people a sense of importance. Although, if they realize who they are in Christ, they would know they are Royalty. Also, believe it or not, grown-ups suffer from "peer-pressure". King Saul in 1Samuel 15;22-23, did what associates wanted instead of what GOD said. What we can do to reverse this trend is to remember, if we ever knew, and to learn, if we never knew, that GOD is our Source. Anything that we do should be to the Glory of GOD. The Holy Spirit inspires us to Praise the Lord. Jesus said HE could do nothing, keep nobody, know the time or the hour, or anything else EXCEPT the FATHER empower Him. So if the Holy Spirit takes care of us for JESUS, and JESUS gives the Glory to the Father, who are "we" to want to get Glory by "being religious"? Only what we do for CHRIST will matter, count and most of all LAST. If we read the Word, teach the Word, share the Word, understand the Word (with illumination from the Holy Spirit), obedience will follow as we understand who we are in relation to who GOD is. Perspective can reverse this trend. May GOD contiue to richly Bless you. |

The Mother of a church is the older wiser woman that every body respects. Usually she is old but sometimes she might be middle age but she is Wise and people respect her and consult her for advice, prayer etc. Sometimes she's the person who has been at the church the longest. It is a position that doesn't have to be appointed (although some ministers may say that so-and- so is the Mother of our church) A person usually "grows" into this position with time, Grace and Wisdom. You give her flowers on the special holidays like Mother's Day, Christmas, Easter, etc. She has a certain section to sit in so she doesn't have to wait to be seated. (a lot of times, they are in wheelchairs or on canes and walkers due to arthritis). I guess it would be equated with the respect that was to be given to the widows and ophans in the Bible. | ||||||
