Why does the latter part of Jeremiah 49:39 read so differently in these two versions of the bible,NKJV and NASB? Are they both stating the same thing? | ||||||

CJM I think your getting caught on the word translated “fortunes” in NASB and “captives” in NKJV. It basically means the same thing. A restoration of Elam to it's original condition. Remember the Elam were the descendants of Shem. They acted against Israel in Isaiah 22:6 and therefore God brought judgement against them. But it wasn’t to be a perpetual state and here in Jeremiah God is promising to restore them back into fellowship. Which we see accomplished in Acts 2:9 11 where they participated in the coming of the Holy Spirit. EdB |
