1 | Can God's directives oppose His Word? | Jer 2:23 | Tim3:16 | 162028
Is this directive to Hosea (1:2) not in opposition to God's Word, telling him to join with a prostitute, when elsewhere it says that whoremongers will not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven? See also Proverbs 7:10 with 7:25
2 | Can God's directives oppose His Word? | Jer 2:23 | caldog | 162029
God is soverign. Prior to Christ, He used extreme measures with the prophets to record His word. Israel was like a prostitute, so God was showing He would take her back eventhough.
3 | Can God's directives oppose His Word? | Jer 2:23 | Tim3:16 | 162032
Thank you, Caldog, I know that God's ways are higher than ours, and I would never think of questioning His sovereignty. But I think this goes a little deeper than what you are referring to, don't you? What you say is that this happened before Christ. I think that God is unchanging, also, man is equally as sinful today as he was then. My perplexity arises from what God's inspired Word tells us in 1Cr 10:13: "No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it." Thanks again, God Bless Tim |

4 | Can God's directives oppose His Word? | Jer 2:23 | caldogkcaldog | 162044
God changes not, agreed. I was referring to the way He deals with us under the new covenant as appose to the old. We were talking about Hosea right? He required Hosea to marry a prostitue. This was to show Israel she was a prostitute for worshiping other gods. He required Hosea to forgive her, because He was going to forgive Israel. This was all for Israel's benefit. When I said that was before Christ, I meant He does'nt use profits in that way any more. Hebrews 1 "God, who at many times and in many ways spoke in times past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son...." Does it seem His using a prostitute contradicted His righteousness? It is a valid question..But since He is the Alpha and Omega...what can you say. We are His creatures..He is Supreme God. I agree, it makes you kind of question, but in all this we can rest assured, though we may not understand, for a while, He is Holy. I believe, if He would explain His reasoning, we would end up saying "His judgements are just and tue". |
