How many see the 1 to 1 correlation of ancient Israel to today's America? Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Cahn's book, The Harbinger, shows the apostasy that afflicted/afflict both ancient Israel and the United States, especially in light of the tragedy of September 11, 2001... The late David Wilkerson prophesied of this, following in Isaiah's footsteps, as have others, concerning the arrogance of nations, and their separation from God... What do you see must be done, in order to restore America, and other nations, to God, in addition to II Chronicles 7:14? |

Hi, Watchman... Welcome to the forum! Unless one is very particular about what aspects to compare, there are more differences between modern America and ancient Israel than there are similarities. As I considered the question, it seemed to me that one could draw better parallels with the Swedish Empire of the 1600's. Of course, the biggest problem with that would be that one might have quite a difficult time trying to monger prophecy nowadays. The key to increased sales always needs to be to tie a teaching to the readers themselves, yet without giving them any sense of responsibility to the commands of God. On the other hand, if we are not talking about popular contemporary eschatology, but application, then of course we would find helpful parallels. At the root of it all is the pervasive falleness of man. Even David says quite clearly that nations operate out of that fallen nature. "Why are the nations in an uproar and the peoples devising a vain thing? The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers take counsel together Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying, 'Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!'" Psalm 2:1-3 That certainly sounds like most nations throughout history, doesn't it? Nevertheless, the Lord responds: "He who sits in the heavens laughs, the Lord scoffs at them. Then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury, saying, 'But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain. I will surely tell of the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, and the very ends of the earth as Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron, You shall shatter them like earthenware.'" (vv4-9) Whew! This is the only reference in Scripture to God laughing. See how clearly God states His commands and carried out His eternal purpose. This is the Kingdom of God. It is established regardless of the childish rebellion of nations. David continues, just to make it all very clear: "Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth. Worship the LORD with reverence And rejoice with trembling. Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, for His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!" (vv10-12) Thus, we should not be surprised that there are many applications we can take from the ancient nations spoken of in Scripture. Applications that will draw us closer to God and His Kingdom, and will do so without danger of eisegesis. In Him, Doc |

I think the questioner was asking to see his question answered in relation to Israel. Not to the cause. Example in Judges we see Israel going up and down. In good times they pulled away from God and in bad times they called out to God. I see this in the US when things are running smooth God is shoved into the background. However let a disaster hit and God is sought. I think we need to realize God is God and start keeping him first in everything always. We need to demand men of integrity to be our leaders, we need to realize morals is not just a fun quencher but a way of living that leads to a fuller life. We need to demand more of ourselves we need integrity, morals and heart that follows after God. Without this change for the good will not come. |
