1 | Were the Jews doomed? | Is 58:2 | Fabulous Debz | 230569
Before Christ came as the ultimate atonement for our sins, the Jews lived under various covenants. The four major ones being the Noahic, Abrahamic, Mosaic and Davidic covenannts. Under these God made provision for the Jews and those who did not live righteously according to the stipulations laid down will face the same fate as those of us today who know of and have not accepted Christ. The Messianic covenant, which is the new covenant under which we live today ratifies the failure of the previous ones but does not nullify what they have already accomplished. As the Bible says in Deuteronomy 7:9 New International Version (NIV) "Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments." |

2 | I knew I was a sinner before I was saved | Is 58:2 | notlost | 230570
Let me try this differently. A pastor recently said that he is convinced the Jews of Isaiah's time did not know they were sinners. (The 'Jews', I suppose, would mean all or most of the Jews.) So my question is, how can this be if God gave each of us a conscience. For example, to me Isaiah knew he was a sinner before he encountered God in Chapter 6, and after that encounter with the holy God he REALLY knew he was a sinner. I would think that, because of the conscience, most of those Jews knew they were sinners, although they may not have thought their sin disqualified them from eternal life. IF, as the pastor thinks, they actually did not know or think they were sinners, I would also think that would disqualify them from obtaining salvation.

Scripture ... Isa 6:9-10, 43:8; Jer 5:21; Eze 12:2; Mat 13:10-17 ... God's day to you, notlost, These passages show something about the reasons some do not believe, I look at Psalm 19:1-6 and Romans 1:19-20 for the world being aware of God. Then in Romans 10:8-16 to show the need of sending, preaching, hearing ... to clarify what people see ... so there is believing and calling. S |
