1 | Isaiah 53--Prophecy or not? | Is 53:1 | LibertyBelle | 131302
It's me, again. The same atheist has challenged that Isaiah is NOT a prophecy of the Lord's birth, life and death. BECAUSE he says, it's written in PAST TENSE, so therefore, cannot be a prophecy, since prophecies are for the future only. How do I answer this? Any suggestions? Any are welcome!

Prophetic writings were often written in past tense. Frankly, this is one of those "higher criticism" things. There is even a prophecy in Isaiah where a Babylonian king is mentioned by name a hundred years before he was ever born. The liberal critics use this as a proof that Isaiah couldn't have written Isaiah. Your atheist sure isn't hanging his hat on the toughest questions. God created everything. This doesn't just mean the earth, sea, sky, stars, and galaxies. It means the space-time continuum itself. (It took no more effort to do that than if He created an infinite number of universes.) Why in the world would something as insignificant as time be a problem for the creator of time -- indeed, God is not subject to time just because He created it -- let alone that one of His servants wrote in past tense. The biggest problem for atheists is "ex nihilo nil est." That's a Latin phrase for "out of nothing nothing comes." Every effect needs a cause. They've got the Big Bang with no cause. They can only answer this by getting metaphysical... and once they do that, they are resorting to things just as tenuous as that which they are trying to flee! More so, because they are doing it off of the top of their heads! Here's a good apologist site for you to use: http://www.reasons.org/index.shtml They will even help you with answers for skeptics. |
