Any insight into this verse please? Do these trees grow together "naturally?" See also verse 20. | ||||||

Mommapbs There are many different trees growing in the forests. Most are in competition with each other for light nutrients and water, some even put out a chemical that adversely effects others. An imported Brazilian pepper tree that we now have in Florida is able to actually kill other trees around them. However here is an interesting fact most trees that grow and end up in contact with another will stop producing it’s defense chemicals and both trees will actually begin to share the resources that are available to them. As to the particular trees mentioned, with the exception of the olive tree which I know very little about, I think all are considered communal trees and as such are found intermingled in the forest. EdB - great observations . . .makes me wonder when the "church" will stop producing those "defense chemicals" you mention and begin to live in true community (sharing the God given resources we have been given) as God desires! Blessings, mommapbs |

mommapbs The really sad thing was at one time the church did move in harmony. Oh there were people that tried to seize control or had political aspirations, but the church itself moved in one direction and nearly effected the whole world. Today we have churches going in any and all directions determined by how they interpret Scriptures. We have people calling others pagans because they are Baptist and the other Methodist. We claim this okay as long as we cling to essentials and while that sound good these differences still keep us divided. But I wonder what the essentials are when in some churches we have homosexual ministers in other churches homosexuality is abhorrent. In some churches they support abortion in others they called it murder. In some churches living together is acceptable in others it is condemned. In some Jesus is part of the Trinity in others the Trinity is demonic. In some grace is all that is needed in others holiness in grace is called for. In some you can walk the aisle and rob a bank in others if you rob a bank you need saved. If these aren’t essentials I guess I don’t understand essentials. In some churches they have a rock band singing songs I can’t understand in others they have no musical instrument. Some go to church on Saturday and some on Sunday and still others never. In some they talk in one language in others they talk another and say that is okay yet we know when God wanted to divide the people he confused their language. I say all these things divide us and make up less than Christ called the church to be. I once had a conversation with a wise Jewish man, I asked him of his observations of Christianity. His comment will stick in my mind forever. He said the thing that struck him the most was our practice of shooting our wounded. The world looks at Christianity as a religion that is not sure of what to believe, doesn’t practice what it does say it believes and ignores or mistreats those that need help the most. This forum is a perfect example of how Christians treat each other and how we think in common. I don’t think you could get any two of us to agree on the color of a pea and would end up calling each other names if we tried. EdB |
