Dear Grace, I think that in human beings the fearing God and loving Him are two different things. We see from Scripture, though, that even Jesus gives us the example of both fear of God (Isaiah 11:2-3) and love for God (John 17:26). Of course, there is a huge distinction between the way the lost (when they do) fear the Lord, and the way a believer fears the Lord. Frankly, I do not believe anyone who takes on the name of Christian really have "seen" the Lord if they do not experience both of fear and love of God! He is so incredibly beautiful, awesome, mighty, holy, etc. See post #150189. By the way, isn't it interesting that the fear of the Lord is the root of knowledge of God and wisdom (Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:7; 9:10), our treasure (Isaiah 33:6), present in those who walk in the Spirit (Acts 9:31), an aid to obedience (2 Chronicles 19:9), etc. Yet it is so rarely taught... let alone cultivated in the life of believers! In Him, Doc |
