I don't know of any such prohibition. In Christ's time the Israelites tended to practice something called excarnation. This involved the placing of a body in a tomb and to return one year later to clean the bones. The bones were then placed in a family ossuary (i.e., a "bone box") carved from stone. This practice was common to both Sadducees and Pharisees. If there had been a prohibition of some sort, then the Pharisees at least wouldn't have practiced excarnation. By the way, it might be helpful to visit a dead loved-one's grave... but only for you, not the dead person. The dead person won't benefit in even the tiniest bit imaginable. In Him, Doc |
