1 | Sheol Hell or World of the Dead? | Eccl 8:14 | stjohn | 207320
Hi Bowler: By the way, Hell and Sheol are not necessarily the same place. Hell, as we think of the place of eternal judgment and suffering, "can" be seen as the side of Hades that the rich man is, or, more likely, a place not yet open for business. See Rev 19:20, and 20:10-15 God bless John |

2 | Sheol Hell or World of the Dead? | Eccl 8:14 | bowler | 207324
John Not trying to quibble with you. It seems that Sheol as death and as hell are interchangeable at points according to their usage throughout the OT - and that there is also another name for death in the same sentence, at times, as Sheol, which in those sentences render it Sheol to be hell as we understand hell. It makes me wonder since Lazarus and rich man were in the "world of the dead" (Hades) also another meaning for Sheol, as if that is what the writer of Ecclesisates meant as well by using the word. I guess you are right. Just a worthless son. blessings abound, bowler |

5 | Sheol Hell or World of the Dead? | Eccl 8:14 | Hank | 207331
John :: You ask, Who is Dives? It is the name sometimes given to the rich man about whom Jesus spoke in Luke 16:19-31. It has an interesting history. "Dives" is the Latin word for "rich" and is used in Luke 16:19 in the Vulgate translation. The idea that "Dives" was actually the name of the rich man emerged back in medieval times. There is nothing in Scripture to back up this ages-old assumption, however. It's much the same thing as calling Mary's psalm of praise the "Magnificat" in Luke 1:46-55), because "magnificat" meaning "magnify" is the first word in the passage in the Vulgate. Another example is calling the Lord's Prayer of Matthew 6:9-13 the "Pater Noster" which is the beginning phrase in the Latin language and means "Our Father." --Hank

Oh, I see, I sorta had an Idea, that there was something I'd missed, it didn't seem likely that Son of God just made it up, but I hadn't ever heard that before. Hmm, I guess it would be sorta like calling him Riche. :-) Thanks for the info brother Hank.
