2 | King Soloman | Eccl 12:13 | Bill Richardson | 231112 | ||
It does seem that a Godly portion of His Wisdom dumped into a human mind was too much for any human to handle. I agree with you to a certain degree, Solomon did get to be a little too full of himself. And followed exactly that which he recommended NOT to do. Throughout the Book of Ecclesiastes he seems to be describing his life. He seemed to enjoy any pleasure, any kind of sin he could possibly get into. He married at least 700 women, most of them from other countries who had no knowledge of God and didn't have such a desire. He also enjoyed at least 300 concubines (mistresses). Can you imagine trying to keep all these competing women happy? All that wisdom and what a fool. It does seem he didn't take full advantage of the wisdom with which he was blessed. Ecc 12:8 “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher, “All is vanity.” 9 And moreover, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yes, he pondered and sought out and set in order many proverbs. 10 The Preacher sought to find acceptable words; and what was written was upright—words of truth. 11 The words of the wise are like goads, and the words of scholars are like well-driven nails, given by one Shepherd. 12 And further, my son, be admonished by these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is wearisome to the flesh. 13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. 14 For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil. I've always wondered whether we'll see Solomon in Heaven. Did he finally repent like his father, David did? Who could know but God, the Father of us all. Go with God in all things, my friend. Bill |
