Because it's completely unBiblical and places man as the authority over God. These false teachers claim that God's will is that all people be materially prosperous. But that is clearly not true according to the Scriptures. Ask the disciples of Jesus as they went through the fields plucking grain to eat. That was only for the poor to do. (Matt. 12) Was Jesus, whom they were with, unable to provide the vast material blessing they were "supposed to have"? Jesus defended them in eating the grain. He did not say "Well, since they don't have enough faith, this is the best they can do." No, He declared them "guiltless". They were right where God wanted them. Poor and dependant. Ask Paul as he spent days and nights without food, shelter, and adequate clothing. (2 Cor 11) Would you claim that the apostle Paul "lacked faith"? Or is it that he didn't give enough? I would not dare assert either claim. Murdock and his kind teach a god who is little more than Santa Claus. The Bible teaches a God Who tests us and tries us, sometimes not giving us much, sometimes not giving us what we think we need, sometimes only supplying the barest minimum. Sometimes blessing us, and when He does give us excess, its not for the purpose of our soaking it up, spending it on our pleasures and lusts, but so that we can give to others. There are many decievers and false teachers, so ask yourself, do their lives look like Jesus' did? Are they teaching us to "deny ourselves, and daily take up our cross"? Or our they teaching us to want and take and consume this world's good upon our pleasures? Would you trade the eternal glory of a sacrificial life for a few extra trinkets here? Mike Murdock would say go for it! Just send your money to him. But the Bible says its our affliction that produces eternal glory (2 Cor 4). Love in Christ, Mark |
