2 | Seven Pillars? | Prov 9:1 | Makarios | 70804
Greetings Mommapbs! This is an interesting verse! The Amplified Bible states, "..set up her seven [perfect number of] pillars." It may be that the second part of this verse, which is describing the 'house of wisdom', is, in a sense "perfect", and is therefore supported by seven pillars, due to wisdom. Seven is commonly considered as a number symbolizing 'perfection.' "9:1 has built her house. Both wisdom and folly have a house to which mankind is invited (see v. 14; 7:8; 8:34), but wisdom has built her house (see note on 14:1)- for her there is no "sitting" (v.14). Cf. the virtues of the wife of noble character (31:10-27). seven pillars. Indicating a large house. Perhaps "seven" refers to seven major aspects of wisdom." 4 | Seven Pillars? | Prov 9:1 | Makarios | 70808
Greetings again, Mommapbs! Only in Job 11:6 does the Bible directly speak of two different aspects of wisdom. A "wise man" or person is he or she who gives to the things of God the same acuteness that other men give to worldly affairs (Luke 16:8). Therefore, I do not see that there are actually "seven aspects" of wisdom itself, as the Zondervan commentary had stated, but there are many, many more than seven ways in which wisdom can be applied: Wisdom is not inherited (Job 11:12), but teached (Psalm 105:22). Wisdom, or a lack thereof (Job 38:2), will give you a reputation (2 Chronicles 9:23). Wisdom comes from God (1 Kings 3:9-15; 4:29-34), and wisdom comes as a product of diligent study of His Word (Psalm 119:33-38; 97-100). Wealth is fleeting without wisdom (Psalm 49:20), and wisdom begins with the Lord (Psalm 111:10). Wisdom brightens countenance (Ecclesiastes 8:1), and those who walk in wisdom trust the ways of the Lord (Hosea 14:9). God's wisdom is beyond our grasp (Isaiah 55:9), even though it is He who reveals His truths to little children (Luke 10:21). We may consider ourselves as "wise" by our own means (1 Corinthians 4:10), even though it was God's intent to make His wisdom known through the church (Ephesians 3:10). The Son of God has come to give us wisdom and understanding (1 John 5:20), so that we will have the ability to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ (Ephesians 3:18). Blessings to you, Makarios |

5 | Seven Pillars? | Prov 9:1 | Mommapbs | 70811
Thanks - this has been quite a blessing for me! I will continue to ponder these things. "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom,And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Proverbs 9:10 Most of us leave out the second, and what I believe to be the most important, part of this verse! We would do well to know the Holy One more and more as we see the Day approaching! mommapbs |
