There are 7 things listed from verse 16-19 that God hates. In verse 17 one of the things is a lying tongue. In verse 19 it mentions a false witness who utters lies. Is there any difference between a lying tounge and a false witness that utters lies? If they are one in the same why are they listed separately?
2 | Explain a lying tongue vs. false witness | Prov 6:19 | Michael Draves | 167045
Lying is a broader category that contains false witness as a subset. Telling any falsehood is lying. False witness would definitely include lying when testifying in a courtroom and it might include false prophecy as in Ezekiel 13. The Ten Commandments refer to bearing false witness and not the broader category of lying.
