1 | Pampered servant, asset or liability? | Prov 29:21 | TulsaGuy | 202924
Is this version a caution to "not pamper a servant" because they will expect the rights of a son afterward... or, more positively, is this an encouragement to "pamper a slave so that he will become a son you love" ?
2 | Pampered servant, asset or liability? | Prov 29:21 | BMyers | 202944
Oddly enough, my first answer was that this is encouragement. Yet, you have to remember we live in a time that slavery is looked upon as bad (rightfully so (didn't want anyone to think I was advocating slavery)). At the time period this verse was written, slavery was a 'norm'. So, I checked two commentaries about this verse and they both state that this was a 'caution' about how to treat your slave. Brad |
