Greetings Faithfully His, Proverbs 24:11 ΒΆ "Deliver those who are being taken away to death, And those who are staggering to slaughter, Oh hold them back. If you say, "See, we did not know this," Does He not consider it who weighs the hearts? And does He not know it who keeps your soul? And will He not render to man according to his work?" [NASB] Here is a bit of commentary on these verses: "24:11 These verses speak with a certain confidence and understanding of life beyond the grave (23:17,18). This verse is a prayer to God as death approaches." (1) "24:12 according to his deeds: Jesus' words about eternal rewards open and close the New Testament (compare Matt. 5:11,12 with Rev. 22:12). Yet Jesus' action on the Cross will deliver those who believe in Him from any condemnation (see Rom. 5:18; Gal. 3:18; Rev. 22:17)." (1) "24:11 The danger here may be from unjust treatment or violence. Deliverance can either be by giving a true testimony on their behalf, by providing what they need to survive, or by rescuing them from a fatal course." (2) "24:12 He who weighs the hearts. .. God is the One who knows the truth about the motives of the heart and the excuses for failing to do what is right (cf. James 4:17). render to each man according to his deeds. Cf. v. 29; Job 34:11; Jer. 25:14; 50:29." (2) Proverbs 24:11-12, like the rest of the Bible, speaks of things that we can do while we spend our time here on earth. Earthly life is, in itself, a time of preparation for eternity (Luke 12:20-21). How we live is an expression of our preparation for eternity.
