1 | Pride is a good thing! Or is it? | Prov 23:7 | humbledbyhisgrace | 153370
Pride is a good thing! Or is it? How many of us have raised our children encouraging them to be proud of themselves and to take pride in their accomplishments. Teaching them to have confidence in themselves. I know I did and I thought this was the right thing to do. But is it? What are some better ways we can teach our children God's truths and use this to teach them to be confident instead of teaching them to be prideful in themselves?
2 | Pride is a good thing! Or is it? | Prov 23:7 | Mommapbs | 153371
Greetings! How to balance the truth of God's Word with the message of the world is indeed a difficult hurdle as a parent! Basically, we are taught to belive lies and as a result we become addicted to performance and approval rather than looking for our worth from God alone. I have found "The Search for Significance" by Robert McGee to be a great tool. It is available in youth, teen and adult versions. Check it out!
3 | Pride is a good thing! Or is it? | Prov 23:7 | humbledbyhisgrace | 153397
Thanks for your response Mommapbs! I have not read this book so based on your recommendation, I searched the internet to look for a source to purchase the book. In the process of searching, I came across an interesting review of the book you mentioned. You can find this at http://www.behindthebadge.net/articles/a60.html As stated, I myself have not read the book but I did read the review. I realize this is only one mans view of the book. However, what he points out about the book is interesting. |

4 | Pride is a good thing! Or is it? | Prov 23:7 | Mommapbs | 153399
I'd encourage you to read it for yourself - this reviewer is looking for negatives to pick on, there is much to be gleaned from McGee's work. His complaint that he doesn't rely upon the work and ministry of the Holy Spirit is unfounded. "Apart from Me, you can do nothing" (John 15) comes to mind here! I found this text to be very Biblically sound and filled with priciples that have worked in my life to keep Christ as the focus, NOT SELF!! |

7 | Do you disagree in whole or in part with | Prov 23:7 | humbledbyhisgrace | 153418
Interesting you would completely disagree. Just based on the review itself, I would say some of what was pointed out gives reason for pause in regards to the book, if what was pointed out is true. I would also say, that some of what was said in the review should also give pause to accepting the reviewers opinion on the book completely. Regardless, I would have to read the book myself to fully understand the arguments. I do thank you for your input. I respect your opinion because you have read the book yourself and most of all because of your willingness to share out of love. That is a blessing. Thanks! |
