2 | proverbs 22:6 train up child - free will | Prov 22:6 | sonja | 124556 | ||
This is from Nelson's New Illistrated bible commentary, which I happen to have a copy of. copyright 1999 by Nelson inc. "The idea is paraphrased:When the parent has done his or her own job correctly, then there is a binding contract from God to spare that parents child for eternity. The problem, of course, is there is no such gaurantee in scripture-in this verse or in any other. These verses are principles, not promises. A godly parent has no guarantee from God for faithful children. Each generation is resposible for their own relationship with God. To be brief; this verse is a proverb; not a promise. The verb in this proverb is imperfect (in the present sense). This verb form means that time after time one will observe the process and be aware of it. The point of 22:6 then is to present the task of parenting in a divine balance. The parents do their part and God does his part. There is no magic, there a re no guarantees. But there is a t least a sense of participation, excitement and fullfillment." This is only the short ending summary of what they had printed about this verse. |
