2 | self-righteous and Truth | Prov 21:2 | talmid | 156388
When I hold fast on to what I think is right, then it is my self righteousness that drives it. What is right according to God may be different from what I think is right. It takes diligent heart to seek, learn and become experienced in knowing what God's righteousness is.
3 | self-righteous and Truth | Prov 21:2 | Just Read Mark | 156390
I think the best illustration of self-rightousness comes from the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus is talking about judging others, and the hypocracy we are prone to. The text is Matthew 7:1-5. Then, taking these words of Jesus to heart, we need to pray that we will be able to see things clearly. With humility, we draw others of God s truth. JRM |

I would like to add to that from Heb 8:11. Many would have experienced that God teaches us? If we "see" something which is wrong in others, we must have faith that the same God who teaches me can teach them too. It is God's business to judge and not ours. The best intentions of man (this itch to correct others), are often full of folly.

Agree with answers in this question so far. How then do we discern the difference: 1 Cor 2:15, 2 Cor5:12, Psalm 141:5 and Proverbs15:31-33 ? 1 Cor 2:15 (ANT)But the spiritual man tries all things [he examines, investigates, inquires into questions, and discerns all things], yet is himself to be put on trial and judged by no one . . . 1 Cor 5: 12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge (pass disciplinary judgment [passing censuring sentence on them as the facts require]) those who are inside [the church]? Psalm 141:5 Let a righteous man strike me - it is a kindness, let him rebuke me - it is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it. Proverbs15:31-33 he who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise. 32 He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding. 33 The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor. |

Yes that verse in 1Cor 2:15 is really true. But I really need to judge myself to see whether I am really spiritual. The journey from being carnal to being spiritual is a long journey and it will help if I don't judge others and work on my own life. Along the way in matters where I have become spiritual, I will be able to judge with clarity. But in other matters I need the humility to go to God for help for myself.
