1 | Do christian's have rights? | Prov 20:1 | speight | 175370
Do christian's have right's? There is a person that was saved and here recently that person has taken up drinking, do I have the right to tell this person that what she is doing is wrong? I totally do not understand when a christian that has backslidden says that it is none of my business and that it is not me that they are going to have to answer to, that is correct. It is like they have the attitude of "okay, I'm saved now I can do whatever". Please someone help me understand.
2 | Do christian's have rights? | Prov 20:1 | Hank | 175371
Dear Speight - Perhaps you can find a loving way to share with your acquaintance who has, in your words "taken up drinking" what the Bible says about it. But I'd advise your being very careful not to insert into the conversation your personal views of drinking. There are some Christians who teach that drinking is sinful, but I'm not one of them, even though I do not drink alcoholic beverages for a number of personal reasons which I've heretofore listed on this Forum. ... What the Scriptures condemn is drunkenness. You did not indicate whether the person about whose drinking you are concerned is a drunkard, so we have no way of knowing from your phrase "taken up drinking" exactly what you mean. Be that as it may, some of the New Testament passages that condemn drunkenness are as follows: Romans 13:13; 1 Cor. 5:11 and 6:10; Gal. 5:21; Eph. 5:18; 1 Peter 4:3. ..... My son was killed by a drunken driver, so I'm no promoter of drinking and, as I've said, I don't indulge. But for me to believe and teach that the Scriptures absolutely forbid the consumption of alcohol in any amount or in any form is not true and is adding something that the Bible simply does not teach. --Hank
3 | Do christian's have rights? | Prov 20:1 | lionheart | 175380
Hank, Dear brother you always seem to hit certain things right on the head and this is one of them. October will make sixteen years clean and sober for me. I will be in recovery for the rest of my life. But that's good, that's God's Grace and you will never hear me complain about that! So it's obvious why I dont drink anymore and I dont encourage others to do so,but niether do I judge. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:12- All things are lawful for me,but not all things are profitable. (NASB) At the end of this verse Paul states but I will not be mastered by anything. The best thing we can do with these individuals is to love em and scripturaly admonish and educate them. That's what folks did for me and that's one of the reasons I'm still here today. To speight I would highly encourage you to love this person and be a friend.Get in this persons life and as God gives opportunity open up the bible to them. But do it with a 2 Timothy 2:15 heart. Hank my heart goes out to you my brother, I could have easilly been that drunk driver and I am all to aware of what my drinking did to my former wife and my kids and anyone who was in my life. Hank I am very grateful to God for what you bring to this forum, folks like you,Doc,kalos and others to numerous to mention in the remaining space help bring old war horses like me back to reality when we need it the most. Love ya brother. YBIC, lionheart |
