Who is a 'backslider'? Does this verse have anything at all to do with the "backsliding" daughter in Jeremiah 49:4?
2 | Who is the 'backslider in heart'? | Prov 14:14 | Mommapbs | 30842
Greetings Nolan! My study Bible has a cross reference to Jer 3:6 which indicates that this "daughter" refers to Israel. But according to the Amplified version, I suspect that God had many sons and daughters in mind! A backslider in heart - what a convicting description! Many times I find myself distracted and self centered. So often I find so much "fruit" of my own making that I am starving! It is a struggle to maintain my focus on God and His desires. Any suggestions? Blessings to you, Mommapbs |

3 | Who is the 'backslider in heart'? | Prov 14:14 | Makarios | 30968
Greetings, Mommapbs! Thank you for your reply! I did not want to offer you a 'dazzling' reply with one of the nine Study Bibles that I own, simply because I wanted a different response! :-) Yes, we all struggle with maintaining our focus on God and His desires, since there are myriad things here in our lives to divert our attention.. However, I would not say that we have somehow become "apostates" because of our temporary diversion. But if a "diversion" means 'sin', then that of course should be repented of and left behind in our spiritual walk. I believe that the person spoken of in this verse is the person who has lost the will and the fear of God to turn from such sin in their lives, since they are becoming blind to that which is spiritual and more and more worldly, giving in to everything that presents itself, and becoming quite tolerant of the things that potentially lead us away from God. Even though I believe that people can 'venture' into this low state of spiritual well-being, I believe that the Holy Spirit will "re-ignite" the fire within them, and pull them out of that once again! The Holy Spirit will always be with us to remind us of who we are and who now claims us! But I believe that such regression is possible and does happen, even though we are still saved. Thank you for your thoughts, Mommapbs! Blessings to you, Nolan |
