1 | Red, and yellow, black, white, and blue? | Gen 9:19 | Lionstrong | 5982
Noah and his immediate family were the only people who survived the flood. My wife and I have mused that there would have been an even greater variety of human beings living on the earth now had there been no flood. Our first parents had the entire gene pool. All their kids could have been significantly different from each other. In fact there's no reason to believe that Eve had very similar features to Adam. Since Noah was several generations removed from Adam, he probably no longer had the complete gene pool as Adam did. It would have been fasinating to see the variety of people that lived before the flood!

Yes, it would be fascinating to 'step' into that timeframe. I, for one, would be interesting in chatting with Enoch.. :) Your family heritage sounds interesting, for both you and your wife, Lionstrong! My family is predominately descended from a Swiss/Irish/German heritage. The only basis for a belief that Eve had similar physical features as Adam is from the fact that Eve was formed from Adam's rib. It is possible that there were a greater variety of races, but I feel that this would be more in the domain of anthropology than that of Biblical history. |

Greetings, Nolan; Thanks for your follow-up. ............. At least Eve was similar enough for Adam to recognize her as one of his kind. Other than that, God might have made her with very different features. (I hate to use this term because there's only one, ... the human) But Eve could have looked like what we today mistakenly call a different race, although she too, like Adam, would have the entire gene pool. ................ Anthropology? Yes, and because Scripture is true, scientist can use what God has revealed about the human race as a presuppositional foundation for their research. Just as Christian geologists have looked at the present state of the earth from the perspective of a world-wide catastrophe, anthropologists can look at the diversity of peoples and cultures from perspective of the source of this diversity, the families of Noah's son's. ............. And just because they start from the Bible does not mean that their guesses will be right, but starting from the truth will give them a better chance than starting from materialistic or naturalistic presuppositions. |
