1 | First rain and first rainbow | Gen 9:13 | mark d seyler | 183096 | ||
Shalom, Azure, There in no mention of rain prior to the flood, and since we have the explanation of the mist, I expect that the first time it rained was the flood, but this is, admitedly, an argument from silence. I would further expect that the same mist that watered in Eden watered all the land. I would, however, say that it is entirely possible in my opinion that it may have rained prior to the flood. I don't see anything in Scripture that prohibits that view. My answer is simply based on how I read it. In Gen 9:13, the sign of God's covenant is the bow in the clouds. He says, specifically, "I do set my bow in the cloud." From this I gather that whether or not a "rainbow" had been seen before in the mists, or a waterfall, it hadn't been seen yet in a cloud. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

Thanks, Mark for your answer. It helps. I also bear the same view as yours. By the way, it also mentioned that a river flow out of Eden; could it be possible that the water source of the river came from rain? (of course this is only my guessing) Shalom Azure |

Shalom, Azure, I really don't know enough about pre-flood earth to make any really educated guesses about the hydrological cycle of the time. Some things I've read seem to show that the geology of the earth was substantially different before the flood. Systems that function now may not have existed, and there may have been systems that no one has thought of. But if I'm right about one guess of mine, we will have the opportunity to see for ourselves how it all worked! Love in Christ, Mark |
