Hi, TMS... welcome to the forum! The Bible does not give Noah's wife a name -- most Jews just call her what Torah calls her: "Oyshet Noah" meaning, not surprisingly, "wife of Noah". So, we can try to dig around elsewhere (taking it all with a large grain of salt). The ancient flood story from Babylon, the "Epic of Gilgamesh", (in which Noah is called "Uta Napashtim") doesn't give a wife's name either. No help there! Ancient Jewish traditions say Noah's wife was "Naamah", meaning "beautiful" or "pleasing". Naamah was said to have been the sister of Tubal-Cain. Other ancient traditions state that Noah married his niece, Amzarach, daughter of Rakhel. What this all means is that your guess is as good as mine. :-) I kind of lean toward Naamah, but that is probably because my local Aish Hatorah guys say so. :-) In Him, Doc |
