Dear hlavie, Brad has answered the first aspect of your question. I will answer the second There are multiple meanings of the phrase "sons of God." One popular meaning can, indeed, be that human beings are his creation. Later in Scripture, however, men are generally only called His children if they are His chosen. But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel. (Isaiah 29:23 KJV) In that same vein, Christians, being chosen by God for salvation, are also called sons of God. Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. (1 John 3:1 KJV) However, there is only one unique son: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. (John 1:14 KJV) He is the "monogeneis," the only begotten, the one of utterly singular and unique origin (if we can use that terminology without implication of causal origin). He is the eternally begotten Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. In Him, Doc |
