1 | Hebrew expert needed - Gen 3:6-7 | Gen 3:6 | Pam D | 159295
Hebrew expert needed - Gen 3:6-7 Were Eve's eyes "opened" immediately after she ate the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil before Adam had eaten it? OR Were both their eyes opened at the same time - AFTER Adam ate the fruit too? Thanks for any input! |

2 | Hebrew expert needed - Gen 3:6-7 | Gen 3:6 | Makarios | 159296
Greetings Pam! New Testament verses such as 2 Cor. 11:3 and 1 Tim. 2:14 help to answer this question that Eve in fact, ate first (and transgressed first), and had her innocence replaced with guilt and shame before Adam's was (Gen. 3:12), even though Adam sinned very shortly thereafter, if not at almost exactly the same time. Perhaps the fact that BOTH of their eyes were opened at nearly the same time helped to hasten them to a realization that they could now distinguish good from evil, causing them to have the same reaction to each other in verse 3:7. They both knew what they now knew, this mysterious, forbidden knowledge that they were not supposed to know but did, and they both knew that the other one - man AND wife - possessed this new "knowledge" that ended up not being so necessarily good for them at all. If only we could take back those sins that frequently happen in haste and in the blink of a moment when not enough thought, prayer, or diligent restraint is sought after, or even remembered, at the time of trial! Blessings to you, Makarios |
